Dayton native Robert Pollard, who some proclaim is the coolest man to come out of the Dayton area, is a singer-songwriter who was the founder and lead singer for the indie rock group, Guided by Voices (GBV). With more than 1,300 songs registered to his name with BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated), Pollard is among the most prolific songwriters of his time. In 2006, Paste magazine listed him as the 78th greatest living songwriter, and in 2007, he was nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize. Although the band formed in 1983 and disbanded in 2004, they still have a strong following. Pollard and GBV began through appearances at local venues, became a legend in the independent rock scene, and performed their last show at The Metro in Chicago. They reunited in 2010 for a reunion tour with appearances scheduled for Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Across the country, Dayton Original Robert Pollard, is recognized as an indie rock star!
