Englewood MetroPark is a large and heavily utilized MetroPark. Located at 4361 National Road in Vandalia, this park is one of five natural areas created by the construction of earthen flood control dams. The Stillwater River, lakes, woods, and wetlands serve as focal points of this 1,900-acre MetroPark. Each season highlights different wonders of nature including spring wildflowers blanketing the forest floor, plants and trees dressed in full foliage in summer, the warm colors of fall leaves, and frozen waterfalls in winter. Englewood MetroPark is one of the best birding sites in the area; a visiting bald eagle has been spotted in various parts of the park. Kayaking, canoeing, fishing, picnicking, fossil collecting, and horseback riding are just some of the activities to enjoy. Check out the vistas of three natural water falls from the 12 miles of scenic hiking and walking trails, or take in a game on the Disc Golf Course. Played by throwing a plastic Frisbee-like disc at a basket, disc golf provides a fun and relaxing outdoor activity for people of all ages. There are many hidden treasures in Englewood MetroPark, including Pumpkin Ash and Swamp Forest, which is dedicated as a State Natural Landmark in recognition of the pumpkin ash tree, a tree rarely found in Ohio. Also, nestled in this Dayton Original is Aullwood Garden MetroPark, another Dayton Original!
