Possum Creek MetroPark, located at 4790 Frytown Road, consists largely of former farmland that is going through the process of natural succession. Significant natural features include bottomland hardwood forests along Possum Creek, two mature beech woodlots, and numerous created ponds and wetlands. Ponds and the Argonne Lake offer lots of fishing for trout, catfish, and many other species. A large planted prairie bursts with flowers and tall grasses from summer into fall. This 556-acre park is the perfect place for a family outing. The Sustainable Farm is loaded with friendly farm animals that delight both children and adults year round. A flock of rare Icelandic sheep call the Sustainable Farm home. During spring, visitors can observe the seasonal shearing and a wide array of crops and eco-friendly growing methods and other agricultural demonstrations. There are approximately 130 free garden plots available, and plot reservations must be made in person at the farm starting in April. The crops grown are used for animal feed, programs, and the remainder is donated to local food banks. Kids can pet and get up close with farm animals each Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. This Dayton Original is currently one of the largest and most diverse planted prairies in Ohio!
