Linda Vista, Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization located in the city of Dayton that works in partnership with Fundamental Health Solutions, Inc., to provide housing to single women and mothers who are homeless. The vision for the Linda Vista Project began with two women, Carmen Gooden and Shari Rogers, who were motivated by their desire to help women and their children improve the condition of their lives. In 2004, their vision came to fruition when an 11-unit apartment building, located at 1011 Linda Vista Avenue, was renovated and fully furnished. The apartment provides a structured and safe home for women and their children along with the time needed to regain a sense of stability and economic security. All women receiving services through the Linda Vista Project are given the assistance and education needed to meet the goals of their individualized self-sufficiency plan. Linda Vista staff believes that women can accomplish these goals only when they begin to change their mindset about poverty/homelessness and its impact on their sociological and psychological functioning. Linda Vista is not just a place to lay your head; this program helps to give women what they need to succeed in life and not find themselves back in the situations that lead them to homelessness in the first place. This Dayton Original is a Godsend to the community!
