A world of wilderness awaits visitors to the 1,665-acre Germantown MetroPark. Located at 7101 Conservancy Road, in Germantown, this park offers elevated boardwalks and miles of scenic trials. Only 20 minutes from Dayton, Germantown MetroPark enables users to hike, kayak, fish, picnic, fossil collect, and many other exciting adventures, such as backpacking along the 22-mile Twin Valley Backpack Trail. Set in the rolling hills of the Twin Valley, this trail provides a backpacking experience reminiscent of backcountry wilderness trails with beautiful hills, babbling brooks, abundant wildlife, history, and small town charm. Visit the ecologically-friendly Nature Center which is built almost entirely underground on one of the hill sides within the park. It presents informational displays and offers opportunities to observe live animals. The center’s most popular feature is the Window on Wildlife. This area provides benches where visitors can sit and watch native birds through large plate glass windows looking out into wooded hills. The area outside the windows has even been wired with a microphone so visitors can hear the birds while watching them feed just beyond the glass! Germantown MetroPark is the most diverse and significant natural area managed by MetroParks, offering many species of plants and animals found nowhere else in Montgomery County. This Dayton Original has been designated as a Watchable Wildlife viewing site by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society!
