Sinclair Community College is an urban community college located in downtown Dayton, and is the largest community college at a single location in the state of Ohio. The original seven buildings of the new Sinclair campus opened their doors to students in September, 1972. Since that time the curriculum has grown to over 100 separate programs and the campus has grown to 19 buildings. Courses are also offered at many remote sites and online. Sinclair’s academic excellence has been acknowledged on an ongoing basis by accolades from accrediting and higher education governing bodies. In 1989, out of 1,200 community colleges in the nation, Sinclair was selected as one of 20 board member colleges of the League for Innovation in the Community College. In 2001, Sinclair became one of the League’s elite Vanguard Colleges. “Vanguard” is a term designated by the League to recognize the top 12 2-year institutions in North America that focus constantly on student and learner access and success. Sinclair awards, on average, $80 million in financial aid and scholarships each year, and has established more than 100 transfer agreements to assist students in transferring to 4-year institutions to continue their education. This Dayton Original has been designated as a National Center of Excellence by the National Security Agency (NSA)!
