The Human Race Theatre Company is Dayton’s only professional regional theatre company. Since its founding in 1986, the non-profit organization has produced over 275 shows and theatrical events for Miami Valley and southwestern Ohio area audiences. Each season, the company produces a series of award-winning, cutting edge dramas, comedies and musicals, American classics, and regional and world premieres at the 212-seat Loft Theatre in downtown Dayton. Productions are created specifically for Human Race patrons – play scripts are selected with the audience in mind; professional actors, designers and directors are hired; and sets and costumes are built for each individual show.
The Human Race contributes to the development of new and rarely seen works with its annual Musical Theatre Workshops festival and its new Marsha Hanna New Plays Workshops. The education programs touch thousands of children through seasonal classes, summer camps and in-school touring productions, while engagement programs address the cultural needs of challenged individuals throughout the region.
