Kids in New Directions (KIND), a faith-based youth program operating in the Life Enrichment Center, is truly a blessing to the Dayton community! KIND began more than 25 years ago to provide outreach to at-risk, underserved children of Dayton. KIND provides services to children of all faiths. The mission is “to feed the mind, body, and spirit of children living in Dayton,” through after-school and summer programs for school-age children. The KIND after school program provides support after the regular school day ends, and is full of possibilities for all school-age children. KIND gives children and youth the opportunity to be creative, a chance to socialize, as well as receive the educational support they need to be successful adults. The after school program offers a wide variety of academic, health, and Christian enrichment classes for children and youth in grades K-12, including: tutoring, academic skills development (math, reading, science), cooking nutrition, art instruction, group therapy discussions, and fitness education. KIND collaborates with a number of community partners to ensure a variety of programming. These include Learning Through Sports, The K12 Gallery for Young People, Boonshoft’s “Exhibits To Go,” the Young Chef’s Academy (YCA), the University of Dayton’s Music Therapy Department and Baseball Team, and the YMCA. KIND also offers an 8-week summer program where children and youth participate in various educational and fun activities. Participants explore science and math while learning to cook healthy meals with YCA. The YMCA physical fitness sessions focus on strength, flexibility, and body mass index (BMI), and includes swimming lessons. This Dayton Original provides outreach to children and youth through year-round programming!
