Dave Greer’s Classic Jazz Stompers has been a regular part of the Dayton music scene for over 3 decades. This 7-piece jazz band has a wide repertoire of music that, while drawn from the recordings of the great jazz artists and composers of the 1920s and 1930s, is always as fresh as the moment played! The musicians are Chris Moore on cornet, Eric Greiffenhagen on reeds, Greg Dearth on reeds, Jim Leslie on drums, John MacQueen on bass, and Dave Greer on banjo and guitar. Dave Greer’s Classic Jazz Stompers has carried its music to jazz clubs and festivals to cities in eight different states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and Belgium. In June of 2013, the group was featured at the Elkhart Jazz Festival in the company of such well-known jazz figures as Wynton Marsalis and John and Bucky Pizzarelli. In August of 2013, the group was featured at the annual Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival in Davenport, Iowa. CDs are available for only $15; call Dave Greer at 937-272-4459. This Dayton Original can be heard one Friday each month at Jay’s Seafood Restaurant in Dayton’s Oregon District and on the first Tuesday of each month at Jimmie’s Ladder (another Dayton Original) on Brown Street at downtown Dayton’s southern edge!
